Environment

We think the environment is pretty important. After all, it’s the air we breathe and the water we drink! We want to make sure that as a business we don’t leave the environment in worse shape that what we found it in, for the sake of the future of the children we love so dearly.

We strive to make thoughtful, informed and low-impact decisions about every facet of business operations. Below is a list of some of the choices we’ve made in order to reduce our negative impact on the planet and increase our positive impact:

Packaging and Labelling

We want to give our customers a high quality, ‘blue ribbon’ experience without costing the Earth. That’s why our swing tags and stickers are printed on 100% recycled paper using vegetable based inks.

We limit packaging to only what is necessary to ensure the safe arrival of your garments via post. We wrap your order in high quality brown paper, and we recommend placing your Australia Post bag into the plastics recycling bin.

Penguins

Not just a playful logo, Little Emperor cares deeply about our oceans and the marine life within. We choose to make an annual donation equalling 5% of sales to the Australian Marine Conservation Society. AMCS is an independent charity who tackle the big issues threatening our oceans such as plastic marine debris, overfishing, and inappropriate industrial development in the Great Barrier Reef.

Lifespan of our product

The high quality cotton fabric we select, along with the detailed construction of our garments mean that Little Emperor garments are harder wearing than most.

We aim to create clothes that live on long after their wearer has grown out of them. It is our hope that this long lasting quality, together with the fun and playful prints that make the Little Emperor brand unique, mean that these special garments are lovingly passed onto to other family members to become treasured by new little people!

We also pre-wash all fabrics before cutting which prevents our garments from losing their shape after the first wash.

Waste

We think carefully about everything we put in the bin. By far the biggest waste product from the garment construction process is fabric off cuts. In an effort to eliminate our contribution to landfill, we retain our cotton fabric off cuts and re-purpose them as stuffing for cushions! Other suggestions are very welcome.

Materials

Where possible we select organic cotton. Organic farming doesn’t degrade soil and water through the use of pesticides. Garments made from organically grown cotton are identified in the product description in our online shop.

We acknowledge that cotton fabric is not always the most environmentally friendly clothing material, as cotton production requires a lot of water. Good quality cotton is however hard wearing, which increases the lifespan of our product.

Utilities

We choose to partner with other environmentally responsible businesses. Our energy provider is Momentum Energy, a renewable energy provider owned by Hydro Tasmania. We bank with Bank Australia (formerly bankmecu), a customer owned bank based in Victoria that doesn’t invest in fossil fuel industries.

This is not a paid endorsement.

Suggestions

Little Emperor is always open to learning about new ways to improve our environmental footprint. If you know a way that we can improve our impact on the environment, we’d love to hear from you!
